Using and Soaking Oasis Foam:
-Don’t use old oasis as it likely contains bacteria. (This will shorten the life of the flowers.)
-Don’t force oasis down as it creates air bubbles within the oasis, causing flowers to dehydrate and perish.
-Instead, fill a bucket with enough water to fully cover the oasis block. Then drop it on top and leave it to soak.
Flower Tips:
–Arrange the bouquet in your hand and then place in vase. (It is much easier to achieve an even shape.)
-Cut the stems little by little and test in vase until you have reached desired height.
-A few drops of bleach in the water of every vase will extend the life of flowers. It prevents bacteria and “Bacteria is the enemy of flowers!”
–Remove stamens (the pollen stalks) and old flowers. This will allow all the nutrients in the water to keep the fresh flowers alive longer.
-Oriental and Asiatic Lilies are poisonous to cats. Every part of the lily is deadly to felines so please keep out of reach and watch for falling petals/leaves. Share this information to make more cat owners aware.
-Placing lilies in lukewarm water and/or under indirect sunshine will cause them to bloom faster.
WARNING: Flowers should never be placed in direct sunshine or warm water for long periods of time. After letting flowers bloom faster, re-cut stems and place in cool water once again.
-Remove any leaves or flowers below the waterline. (They will pollute the water and kill flowers.)
-Do not place flowers near open windows and heating/cooling vents, in direct sunlight or by ripening fruit. (These produce heat and a gas called Ethylene which dehydrate and shorten the flower’s life.)
-Cool conditions keep flowers alive for longer.
-Always follow mixing directions on the flower food packets. (Usually one sachet of flower food diluted in a pint or a quart of water.)
Rose Tips:
-To extend the life of roses, it’s best not to transport out of water. Ask the florist for a little water pack if you have a bit of time to get where you are going or organize it beforehand.
-Re-cut the stems when you get there.
-If possible, re-cut the rose stems about ½ an inch each day.
Home Picked Roses:
–After picking roses, cut the stems and place them in water immediately.
-Pick as buds with an even color showing.
Tip of the Day: Remove old petals to ensure nutrients travel to the fresh petals and allow the rose to bloom.
We hope our tips help you to keep your happy blooms looking fresher for longer!
Until our next adventure~
