Hello Summer Butterflies~
As the weather warms up, I find myself gazing more out the windows to the beautiful sunny world we live in. Although the puddle I once called my body would rather stay inside with the air conditioning, I managed to venture outside and witness the simple beauty of nature. I watched as butterflies fluttered leisurely from petal to petal, a harsh contrast against the buzzing bees collecting pollen hastily.
As I strolled through my garden, I came across the mint bush that had greedily taken up most of the herb bed. In a swift motion I plucked a few leaves and crushed them between my fingertips. The fragrance was divine. Instantly I felt refreshed despite the heat. It’s hard to argue that we wouldn’t survive without plants and the benefits we receive from them. Aside from the obvious need for oxygen, I wondered then, why are flowers and plants important?
The Importance of Flowers
Being a florist means that flowers are my livelihood and being a human means that plants help me survive. There are so many ways that our world is improved by these beautiful fragile blooms and sturdy plants. It’s amazing to realize just how much we all need them in our life. Here are our favorite reasons why Westridge Florist Toowoomba loves plants and flowers!
Food
Without flowers, there is no honey from the hardworking bees who collect pollen to make it, and for many animals, flowers and honey are natural sources of nourishment. Sometimes plants are an animal’s only source of food. They also provide shelter and create natural habitats that keep our wildlife safe from threats and happy living on this wonderful planet. But not only do animals rely on flowers, so do humans. Flowers have long since been used i
n cooking and as garnishes. Herbs, flowers and herbal flowers improve the taste and add health benefits to any meal.
Herbs are used as garnishes for savory and sweet treats, but my favorite floral decoration for food is the work they do with wedding cakes. The bakers and confectioners create beautiful ensembles of flowers cascading down a tower of wedding cake. It’s truly amazing.
Medicinal Uses
Flowers and plants alike have always been used to heal. Unfortunately they can also harm. Take the Flame Lily for instance. Every part of that striking bloom is toxic however medicine is still made from it. Modern medicine would be nothing without the help of nature’s doctors.
In fact, modern medications can usually only solve one half common ailments while adding their own nasty side effects. Most medicinal herbs have ZERO side effects and can cure the ailment entirely. There are so many uses for herbs, plants and flowers, from healing properties to relaxation and restoration.
Stay Tuned for Part 2…
These are just a couple of reasons as to why flowers and plants are so helpful and needed in our everyday lives. We’ll be including our final favorite reasons in the next part of this blog.
Until our next adventure~
