At Westridge florist we are always looking at making our designs original and we love to use natural products. so, to use lotus leaves instead of colored paper for the final presentation fitted this concept perfectly.
Caring for your roses.
When you receive your roses its important to recut the stems and place them in a clean tall vase of fresh water. Tank water or filtered water is best. You can cut the stems on a slight angle and this will also help them to take up water easily. There will be some flower food attached to the clear cello and you should add this to the water.
Do I unwrap the roses from the lotus leaves?
That is completely up to you, some people like to keep the leaves around the roses other people will discard the leaves wrapping the roses. As time goes on and the roses petals start to get a bit old it’s a good idea to petal pick the blooms. If you leave the older petals on the roses it can affect the fresh petals. It is easy to pluck them off and there will be lovely fresh petals the.
Preserving your flowers.
The beauty of roses is they continue to bloom after you have received them. Then when they start to fade and wilt, they do it with grace and elegance. An as they do, they take on a different beauty. If you wish to keep them forever there are several ways of doing this. One way the easiest is to hang them upside down. The best place is out of direct sunlight but in a dry and airy place or you risk them going moldy. You can also dip each bloom in hot wax this is a lovely way to protect them from age.
Another way to preserve your roses is to petal pick the roses and dry the petals. You can place the petals on some blotting paper and the same thing you just put them in a cool dry place to dry out. Later you can add some rose oil to them for scent.
