Due to covid 19 restrictions most of our deliveries to Toowoomba hospital were not permitted. We are pleased that due to the hard work of everyone in the community we can once again deliver flowers to hospitals!
We are often asked what flowers are best for hospitals.
We recommend an arrangement of flowers in one of our craft boxes. A craft box is a cardboard box that is lined with waterproof paper. It has an oasis sponge in it which only needs to have a little water added daily to keep the flowers fresh, long lasting and lovely.
The craft box has a pretty bow that looks lovely and is sturdy and not easily bumped or spilled.
Another great advantage is no one must try to find a vase, hospitals try to have vases but often run out or the sizes of the vases don’t suit the flowers. The craft box makes the flowers easy for the recipient to transport home when they are discharged.

What type of flowers are suitable for hospitals?
All flowers are suitable for hospitals except for very strong perfumed flowers like oriental lilies which may become overpowering in a small room.
We like bright flowers to cheer or pastel flowers for comfort. Some of our favorite combinations are roses carnations and alstroemeria in the pastel and pink colors. In brights you just cannot beat gerberas.
They come in the most vibrant of colors and one of our favourites is called clown. We use hot pink, yellow, orange, and red with a touch of purple.
Our gerbera flowers are wired and cuped with cello around the flower to ensure that the stems remain open and the flower gets water and lasts a long time.
Our couriers who deliver flowers to the hospital only take the flowers to the nurse station of the ward to ensure the privacy of patients is respected and the nurses drop the flowers into the patient.
We attach a card to the flowers with your message to ensure there are no mix-ups. If you are sending a balloon, bear, chocolates, or all we make sure that they are attached to your flowers so that the patient or new Mum gets the whole gift. We can do baby hampers for new Mums also with or without flowers.
Native flowers are also a good choice for hospitals and are particularly popular for men. Flowers are especially important for men in hospital as they are often missing being out of doors and their garden. Flowers are good medicine for everyone, and we highly recommend them at Westridge florist.
