Westridge florist has an ongoing commitment to providing trainee-ships to school students. This allows the youth of today to shape a future for themselves whilst completing their secondary study so that after school they have an increased chance of finding work that they enjoy.
These students are also awarded with a qualification by the end of their trainee-ships. Not only are the students supported but so are our small businesses.
Our current trainee, Mollie, has recently received ‘trainee of the year’. An award that recognises the commitment of students towards both their trainee-ships and school lives. “The recipients display excellence in their workplace, successfully complete all school subjects and achieve the competency in training modules.”
(The Chronicle, 12th December, 2020). As a school-based trainee Mollie states that “it was an effort to juggle school and a trainee-ship and it was exciting to be acknowledged for my effort and dedication.” She is also leaving school a step ahead with a Certificate III in Floristry.
Mollie describes that she is “relieved and excited to have a career path already set up for myself…”, she goes on to say, “I have learnt so much in the workplace such as managing a till, taking orders and how to manage a business. I have also gained customer service and time management skills, and an eye for design. Observing how a business is run has really opened my eyes to how challenging it is but also how rewarding it must be to gain loyal customers while growing into a well-known business in the community.
I am extremely grateful that Karon has given me the chance to grow just as much and gain all of this experience in such a great workplace. I am looking forward to using my floristry skills in everyday life and to having a job that I absolutely love.”.
