Christmas 2020 for a florist. An update from your locally owned Westridge florist.
We have continued to trade right through the year that has been 2020. We were so happy to continue to provide employment and, in fact, more hours for our loyal hardworking and talented staff. They have all gone above and beyond to ensure that we were able to provide flowers for everyone.
They have been more needed and appreciated than we have ever seen before. Flowers do lift spirits. Through-out this year all of us at Westridge florist have been so grateful to be able to say we are going to work, we hope that in the months to come so many more people will have the privilege of going to work.
Goodbye to a challenging year!
It has been a challenging year to keep up with enough fresh flowers and we would like to thank all of our hardworking growers and wholesalers for the efforts that they have gone to, ensuring we have continued to have fresh beautiful flowers this whole time.
Yes, sometimes we have had to explain to our customers that we don’t have the exact blooms or colours that they wanted but everyone has been understanding and we have continued to provide beautiful fresh flower designs.
I believe that it has been good for us in the industry and we have seen many new and innovative things come out of it.
Another challenge has been sourcing our florist accessories.
Our accessories have over the years become all imported and as everyone knows, there are many shortages in all industries. We have had to be very flexible, our cube vases are now mainly cylinders and we have more silk ribbons than synthetic, more paper than plastic so not all bad changes.
One of the favourites for the team here at Westridge florist has been the use of pre-loved containers. I don’t know why it took a pandemic to create this idea. Everyone has just loved getting original, bespoke, one offs…..Everyone has loved finding special little containers in there homes or in op shops and some of our customers have even brought some into the store for us.
We feel this is our most important Christmas and holiday season ever. We provide the icing on the cake with flowers to gift and decorate, and hampers for those who can’t be with loved ones.
It’s so awesome that we have come through the tough times and can now be together to celebrate Christmas mindful that not everyone is so lucky!
As florists this year we have heard so many sad stories, so many people have missed out on important milestones, farewells of loved one’s, new births, and the list goes on.
So, Christmas this year is going to be a lot more than just another Christmas for everyone. It is a reward and celebration of the efforts and sacrifices everyone has made to get to this point where we can have a celebration.
